Bullion Standard launched with a custom platform built for six-figure buyers — and a 223x return.
Bullion Standard came to us as a startup with no website and no social presence, entering a market where physical gold and silver buyers expect both competitive pricing and complete trust before they commit real money. We built their e-commerce platform from the ground up: product catalog, buy-back system, wholesaler API integration, and a payment workflow designed specifically for how precious metals actually get bought and sold. The result: 645% conversion rate increase, 6,358% AOV increase, and a 223x return on the build.

Bullion Standard needed to look like the established name, not the startup with no track record.
Bullion Standard was starting from nothing — no website, no social presence, no digital footprint — in a market where buyers hand over real money for physical gold and need to trust the seller before they’ll commit. The platform had to build that credibility from the first click.
We built it from scratch: live wholesaler pricing, interactive spot price charts, a deposit-based checkout designed for non-credit-card payment risk, a buy-back workflow as its own system, and a product catalog organized for the way precious metals buyers actually shop. The result was 645% conversion rate growth, a 6,358% average order value increase, and a 223x return on the build.
- No digital presence at all no website, no social channels — Bullion Standard needed a full build from scratch, not a redesign. Trust in precious metals retail is earned over time; they had to earn it from zero on day one.
- No live pricing infrastructure gold, silver, platinum, and palladium prices move by the minute. There was no system to reflect that in real time, and a site showing stale prices in a live-market category immediately signals an untrustworthy source.
- No safeguard against payment delays non-credit-card orders — wire transfers, checks, ACH — carry real market-loss risk between the moment a customer clicks "buy" and the moment payment actually clears. A standard checkout flow had no answer for that.
- No buy-back workflow customers selling metals back to Bullion Standard had no dedicated system. Buy-backs are core to how precious metals retail actually works, and there was no process to support them.
A bespoke e-commerce build, because Shopify was never going to handle this.
Buy-back system, market-risk payment logic, live wholesaler pricing — all custom.
Built from scratch, engineered specifically around how physical precious metals actually get bought, sold, and priced. Every system — live pricing, deposit-based checkout, buy-back workflow, admin backend — was designed for the realities of this market, not adapted from a generic template.
Wholesaler API integration and live pricing
Direct integration with Upstate Coin & Gold's API kept product quantities accurate, handled backorders automatically, and auto-fulfilled credit card orders. Live spot price data and interactive charts for gold, silver, platinum, and palladium gave customers real-time market context without leaving the site — the transparency signal that turns a browser into a buyer in a trust-sensitive category.
Applied: API integration · Live pricing feeds · Inventory sync · Auto-fulfillment logicDeposit-based payment system for market-risk protection
For every non-credit-card payment type — wire transfer, ACH, paper check, cryptocurrency — we built a credit card deposit system that holds a portion of funds upfront. This protects Bullion Standard from spot-market exposure while payment is still in transit. A backend admin system lets staff manually confirm wire payments, release holds, and adjust product pricing without touching code.
Applied: Custom checkout logic · Deposit and hold workflows · Multi-payment-method support · Admin order managementBuy-back workflow
A separate buy-back system built as its own distinct process, so Bullion Standard could accept metals from customers without that workflow colliding with the purchase side of the business. Custom logic, custom admin views, built for how buy-backs actually work in the precious metals trade.
Applied: Custom workflow design · Buy-back system · Backend operationsProduct catalog and CMS
Full product catalog built around the way precious metals buyers actually search — by metal, by product type, by mint and coin series. A built-in CMS means the Bullion Standard team can update content, add products, and manage pages without a developer. The platform was built to be run by the people who know the inventory.

Bullion Standard homepage The platform in market — trust signals above the fold A platform that turned a cold start
into a business that converts.
Shopify doesn't have a buy-back system. No standard checkout handles spot-market payment risk. No generic template earns trust in a category where buyers are wiring five figures to a seller they found online. The platform was built for how this market actually works — and the numbers reflect it.
Interactive spot price charts for gold, silver, platinum, and palladium give buyers real-time market context without leaving the site. In precious metals, showing the current price — transparently, accurately, in real time — is one of the highest-signal trust indicators a platform can have. It's built in from the start.
A backend admin system for manually confirming wire payments, releasing holds, and adjusting pricing. A buy-back workflow that operates as its own distinct process. A CMS for managing content without touching code. The platform was built to be operated by the people who run the business — not to require a developer for every change.
