The primary objective for Bullion Standard's website was to drive meaningful traffic that converts into sales, recognizing that physical precious metals retailing is a high-volume, low-margin business. A key goal was to offer competitive pricing due to their unique supplier relationships and to provide a superior product and customer experience compared to competitors. The platform needed to capture the large-order physical precious metals consumer and effectively communicate trust, an inviting, and captivating feel. 

Challenges included the client being a startup with no online presence, and the implementation of complex features such as real-time pricing integration with a wholesaler's API, a sophisticated buy-back system, and a unique credit card deposit system for non-credit card orders to mitigate market loss. This required specific workflows for delayed payments, manual order commitment, and managing credit card holds.

Solutions

To create an intuitive and trusted platform for Bullion Standard, we developed a bespoke e-commerce website with a custom backend. Our approach focused on integrating key functionalities to address the unique needs of a precious metals retailer, including:

  • Real-time API Integration: We connected to the Upstate Coin & Gold API to ensure live product quantities, manage orders, and provide real-time updates to customers.
  • Custom Payment Workflows: We implemented a specialized credit card deposit system for non-credit card orders and designed complex administrative workflows to manage delayed payments and mitigate market risk.
  • Dynamic Pricing & Data: We integrated live spot prices and interactive charts for various precious metals and developed a backend setting for administrators to easily adjust product pricing.
  • Buy-Back System: A separate and specific workflow was created to handle product buy-backs, streamlining a critical part of the business model.
  • Flexible CMS: A robust Content Management System was included to allow the client to easily update web pages and educational content.
